Mike has been working in cyber security for over 15 years. During that time, the industry has been transformed. IT departments used to deploy anti-virus and network firewalls, and that used to be sufficient to protect their businesses. As the extent and the sophistication of cyber attacks increased, most organizations formed IT security departments who went to work implementing additional defenses. Intrusion detection and prevention, web security gateways, web application firewalls, next generation firewalls, and the list went on. Today there are hundreds if not thousands of security vendors offering security solutions to protect organizations. Yet both the volume and the severity of data breaches continue to increase every year.

As businesses move their applications to the cloud and transform their business processes, their security postures get weaker and their business risk continues to increase. The emerging field of Digital Security must succeed for all of us to continue enjoying our digital lifestyles and freedoms.
